Food and Lodging
We are inspected and licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Board and Lodging facility. This is the same office and the same people that inspect and license hotels and restaurants.
Our building has to meet electrical and plumbing codes, well and septic compliance standards, have safe water temperatures, and other criteria in order for our rooms to be approved.
Our food prep is also closely monitored and kept compliant with licensing requirements. Though our kitchen looks homey and provides a lot of yummy, home-cooked meals, we are diligent in our efforts to protect our vulnerable population from potential food-borne or environmental hazards. We have staff who are certified in professional food safety, and all staff are trained and take precautions like following safe food temperature guidelines, wearing gloves, and sanitizing our dishes.
We cook almost all of our food from scratch, and can accommodate low-sodium, diabetic, and other special dietary needs. Typically, the night staff does meal preparation and baking. The house smells delicious at 2 a.m.! Then, the next day's staff member can put the prepared meal (like meatloaf or chicken and dumplings) in the oven for dinner. We have a menu that's on a 5-week cycle. We often make changes and try new things, but have some favorites that will probably never be taken off! We take resident suggestions and feedback very seriously, and get a lot of compliments on our good cooking.
Room and Board Charge
For our residents who are on Medical Assistance, your room and board is billed separately from your medical care. This is explained in more detail on our How Will I Pay? and Medical Assistance tabs. That rate is set by the state, and covers your rent, food, heat, electric, satellite television, and basic supplies. Again, more check out those payment links for more information, or feel free to call us with questions.
For our residents who are paying for their care with private funds, the room and board is billed together with medical care. It's all included in the base rate as described on our How Will I Pay? and Private Pay tabs.
