Veteran's Assistance
For Veterans Assistance: The Cass County Health, Human, and Veterans Services number is 218-547-1340. (That's the main number, and they'll direct you.)
We've asked a lot of questions, and this is a summary of what we've learned. It's subject to change, of course, and we may not know about all the changes!
There is Veteran's Assistance available for long-term care, but almost always for care at a VA nursing home. There is a slight possibility of funding at another location if you can prove hardship, but they very rarely get approved. We've never seen it. So your care almost certainly won't be covered.
There are some other benefits available, though. You may qualify for prescription medications, incontinence products, hearing aids, a lift chair, and/or other medically necessary equipment and services.
If you are a veteran, the spouse of a veteran, or the widow of a veteran, please contact the county and ask them what benefits you could receive.
On your Dignity and Grace application, make sure to check the Veteran's box, and we'll talk about it more once you're settled.
